The middle colonies were the 5 middle colonies in the 13 colonies. The middle colonies consisted of New york, Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
New York was founded by Samuel de Champlain a French explorer in 1626, Delaware was founded by Peter Minuit in 1638, New Jersey was founded by George Carteret in 1664, and Pennsylvania was founded by William Penn in 1682. These colonies were founded mostly for profit or for religious freedom. The social structure of the Middle Colonies was also very dependent on the religious values of the colonists. There was also a very wealthy merchant class that controlled the social structure and politics. There were a variety of jobs in the Middle Colonies. The main religious groups in the middle colonies were Quakers, Catholics, Lutherans, Jewish and others tiny religious groups. Church life was very good in the middle colonies lots of people liked the churches and attended services every Sunday. In the middle colonies there were rolling hills, trees, rivers, mountains, forest, and it was hot and humid in the summers and cold and snowy in the winters. |
